We Have Project Lift Off: Leanne Allison and Karsten Heuer

I truly wasn’t sure whether or not The Adventures in Parenthood Project would take off, but I launched it, fingers-crossed, committed to moving ahead no matter what happened.

In the week that followed the launch, I received emails from all over North America showing interest in the project. Over 100 people filled out the survey. I received tweets like “there is definitely a need there” and comments on Facebook, such as “This is amazing! All I can say is…..finally!”

It feels great to know that people feel the project is generating a much-needed discussion. The response also overwhelms me a bit, knowing that it has struck a chord and I now feel responsible for providing something. But yesterday I sat on the sunny back deck at the home of two outdoor adventurers I admire very much, Leanne Allison and Karsten Heuer. I was there to kick off the interviews for the project, and it felt so fitting to kick off the interview portion of the project with the very people who inspired it.

I left the conversation completely inspired (again), enlightened, and knowing I was on the right track. Leanne and Karsten brought a unique perspective that had been shaped by their experience in the wild. It was such a pleasure to chat casually with them (digital recorder working its magic), while their dog, Windy, crawled in and out from our legs.

So, thank you to everyone – all followers, partners and sponsors – who came on board and offered their support. Some have also provided access to their services, including The Alpine Club of Canada (who this week linked to the project in their club newsletter) and nu roots nutrition (whom I’ll be consulting on proper nutrition for adventures families).

Thanks for tuning into this update, and if you haven’t yet filled out the survey I’d appreciate you taking 10-15 minutes to do that. Every answer will add so much to the project.

Happy, exciting trails,

  1. Hi There, I’ll be interested to hear all about how this project is getting on. Whilst my husband and I we’re not the most adventurous of people before we had children, we still enjoy all sorts of outdoor adventures with our 2 and 3 year old. We recently had a great time camping. I wrote a report on my blog, http://notimeforironing.wordpress.com/2012/05/26/185/
also about how we get ourselves prepared for the trip
Hopefully it could be useful for other parents?!
I’ll be visiting again soon 🙂
